Julie B. Fix, APR, Fellow PRSA
Julie B. Fix, APR, Fellow PRSA, is an instructional assistant professor at the University of Houston, teaching public relations and communications courses. She is Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication and faculty advisor to the UH PRSSA chapter. Fix is also president and principal of Fix & Associates, Inc. Public Relations, providing consulting, planning and training in the areas of writing, crisis communication planning and management, special events and political campaigns.
A member of PRSA since 1991, she was accredited in February 1996 and elected to the PRSA College of Fellows in 2010. Fix was elected to the College executive committee in 2014 and was Chair in 2017. She also served on PRSA’s National Nominating Committee twice. She has presented workshops at several PRSA Southwest District conferences, as well as at PRSA ICON.
Active in PRSA Houston for more than 20 years, she was chapter secretary, treasurer, director, ethics chair and a Leadership Assembly Delegate to 12 assemblies. She is a facilitator for the Universal Accreditation Board’s online APR study cohorts and frequently conducts “Jump Start Workshops” for those interested in pursuing accreditation. She has also served as a coach for PRSA Houston APR study groups.
Fix is past president of the Texas Public Relations Association, past chairman of the Public Relations Foundation of Texas, and she managed the annual Silver Spur/Best of Texas Awards program for more than a decade. She has won awards for writing and for successful communications programs from the Texas Press Association, Texas Public Relations Association, The Press Club of Houston and the PRSA Houston Chapter. In 2006, she won TPRA’s Golden Spur Award in recognition of her contributions to the association and the profession, and in 2009 Houston PRSA honored her with its Legacy Award.
